ED treatment begins with taking care of your heart and cardiovascular health. Your doctor may point out ‘dangerous features’ that can be changed or improved.
You may be asked to change some eating habits, quit smoking, increase exercise, or stop using drugs or alcohol. You may be given alternatives to the drugs you are taking. (Never stop or change prescription medications without first talking to your healthcare provider).
Your healthcare provider may also recommend treatment for emotional disorders. This can be caused by relationship conflicts, life stress, depression or past anxiety problems with ED (performance anxiety).
The following treatments are available to treat ED directly.
ED Treatments
Non-invasive treatment is usually tried first. Many well-known ED medications are effective and safe. However, it is helpful to ask your healthcare provider about the possible side effects of each option:
-Oral drugs or pills known as phosphodiesterase type-5 inhibitors are usually given in the U.S. for ED (Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, Stendra)
-Testosterone Therapy (if low testosterone is found in a blood test)
-Penile Injections (ICI, intracavernosalAlprostadil)
-Intraurethral medicine (IU, Alprostadil)
-Vacuum Erection Devices
-Penis Plants
-Surgery to relieve penile artery injury in some young men with a history of severe pelvic trauma. Penile vascular surgery is not recommended for older men with severe veins.
